Acadia UN SDG Month 2021

Acadia UN Sustainable Development Goals Month is presented by students in Environmental and Sustainability Studies as part of their applied course work in ESST 4003. Events and activities are focused on four sustainable development goals:

  • Week 1: Good Health & Wellbeing
  • Week 2: Sustainable Cities & Communities
  • Week 3: Responsible Consumption & Production
  • Week 4: Climate Action

SPECIAL EVENT: Sustainable Development Goals Accord Signing Ceremony

DETAILS: Join students in ESST 4003 for a signing ceremony with Dr. Peter Ricketts, President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University, followed by a discussion on the SDG Accord at Acadia.

EVENT: NATURE'S TEACHINGS: DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES ON HEALTH AND WELLBEING
DETAILS
: A discussion about how Acadia can support your well-being related to mental health, diversity, & feeling safe on campus, followed by a Medicine Walk with Kayla Mansfield-Brown & Leah Creaser (weather permitting).

EVENT: TRIVIA NIGHT: SUSTAINABLE CITIES & COMMUNITIES
DETAILS: SDG 11: Come prepared to answer questions about social, environmental, and economic sustainability within cities and communities. There will be energy efficient prizes to be won! Thanks to Efficiency Nova Scotia for donating prizes!

EVENT: GUEST SPEAKER: EMILY KATHAN, TOWN OF BRIDGEWATER
DETAILS: This week's guest speaker will be Emily Kathan from the Town of Bridgewater. She will speak about energy poverty and the Energize Bridgewater Program. There will be also be a question and answer period followed by a facilitated discussion at the end.

Week 3: Responsible Production & Consumption

EVENT: CIRCULAR ECONOMY SPEAKER PANEL
DETAILS:
Experts in the field will be discussing ‘circular economies’ and forms of sustainable economic restructuring and organization. Speakers will include local entrepreneurs and faculty members. Bring your questions and curiosity!

EVENT: COOKING SKILLS WITH GUEST CHEF, NOAH RATTO
DETAILS
: Local chef will teach a hands-on cooking workshop to help folks hone their culinary skills. By learning how to cook, you have more freedom to choose responsibly grown food. Ingredients will be provided free of charge, and there will be two separate workshops with 12 people allowed at each one.
