Acadia SDG Passport Challenge Program

Participate in the Acadia SDG Passport Challenge Program to learn more about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on campus and in the community.

Students will receive a passport and participate in a variety of events and activities to earn SDG stamps. Suggested activities are focused on individual SDGs and are listed below. You only need to participate in one activity to earn a stamp.

The challenge launches November 1st and closes November 30th at the end of Acadia SDG Month. At the end of the challenge the students with the most number of stamps will be entered into a draw for awesome first, second, and third place prizes. More on prizes soon!

2023 Events & Activities

Stamps are available on-site at the locations mentioned below. Look for an infographic poster or ask the organization/program leader.

SDG 1: NO POVERTY

  • Visit the Vaughan Memorial Library and check out the resource display about local poverty issues, including Dr. Lesley Frank’s book on food insecurity and infants. Collect your stamp from the front desk at the Vaughan Memorial Library.
  • Visit the Fed Family Lab website and watch the video about Dr. Lesley Frank’s work on food insecurity for infants and mothers, which is rooted in poverty. Collect your stamp from the DeWolfe House and be prepared to share what you learned!

SDG 2: ZERO HUNGER

  • Visit the ASU Food Cupboard on campus.  Follow the ASU Food Cupboard on Instagram for hours of operations and updates. Collect stamps from the ASU Food Cupboard Volunteers.
  • Attend a Community Cookout at the Front Street Community Oven, every Thursday from 5pm-7pm. Located at the Robie Tufts Nature Centre (160 Front Street, Wolfville). Free for Acadia students. To register visit https://frontstreetoven.ca/community-events/ Collect stamps from the event organizers.

SDG 3: GOOD HEALTH and WELLBEING

  • Visit the Sexual Health Resource Centre (SHRC) on campus. Follow SHRC on Instagram. Stamps available from staff members/volunteers.
  • Complete a belly dancing or yoga fitness class at the Acadia Athletics Complex. Check the Fitness Schedule for class times. Email Fitness Coordinator, Haley McDonald for class locations. Stamps available from the class instructors.

  • Find Reservoir Park and learn about the Town of Wolfville’s old water system. Stamps are available from the signpost closest to the sandy beach area.

SDG 7: AFFORDABLE and CLEAN ENERGY

  • Spot the Solar Array on the roof of Huggins Science Hall. Stamps are available on the bulletin board in the lobby of Huggins Science Hall (across from the M.A.S.H. Centre).

SDG 8: DECENT WORK & ECONOMIC GROWTH

  • Book an appointment or attend an event with Acadia Career Services. Follow Career Services on Instagram for event details. Stamps available from the Career Services staff members.

  • Pitch an SDG-related project idea at the Enactus Club Open Meeting on November 6th at 5:30 pm-6:30 pm located in Patterson, 4th floor (take elevator up to Launchbox Space). Follow Enactus on Instagram.Stamps available from Enactus Club Executive Team.

SDG 9: INDUSTRY INNOVATION & INFRASTRUCTURE

Biology Building

  • Visit the Biology Building and explore the many features that make it a Gold Standard LEED building. Stamps available to the left of the main doors near the tables and chairs. Learn more about LEED Buildings.

SDG 10: REDUCED INEQUALITIES

  • Visit the L’Arche Homefires Gift Shop (Tip, a great place for Christmas presents!) at 341 Main Street, Wolfville, and learn about the Applewicks program. Stamps available from the gift shop staff.

SDG 11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES & COMMUNITIES

  • Go to the Wolfville Recreation Centre at 7 Victoria Avenue using active transportation pathways (Harvest Moon Trail, biking, walking, rolling etc.). Stamps are available on the signpost outside the recreation centre near the tennis courts.

SDG 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION

  • Visit the Wolfville Farmers’ Market at 24 Elm Avenue, every Saturday from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. Stamps are available from the greeters.

  • Attend or volunteer at “Soups and Sides”: Free Evening Market Supper at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market, every Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 pm. Stamps available from event greeters. Visit the Facebook page for more details.

SDG 13: CLIMATE ACTION

  • Attend an event or excursion with the Blomidon Naturalists’ Society and learn about climate impacts on our local environment. For event and  registration details visit blomidonnaturalists.ca. Stamps are available from the event organizers.

SDG 14: OCEANS & LIFE BELOW WATER

  • Visit the Wolfville Waterfront to learn more about local marine ecosystems. Stamps available at the Gazebo.

SDG 15: LIFE ON LAND

Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens

  • Volunteer at the Acadia Seed Bank or the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens on Thursdays from 4:15 pm-6:00 pm. Email samuel.jean@acadiau.ca to sign up.  Stamps available from Garden staff.
  • Visit the Acadia Seed Bank in the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre. Stamps are available from the K.C. Irving Centre café.

SDG 16: PEACE, JUSTICE & STRONG INSTITUTIONS

  • Visit the Acadia Equity Office and learn about Acadia’s initiatives on campus to promote equity and inclusion. Stamps are available at the Equity Office.

SDG 17: PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

  • Attend the President’s Panel on Zero Hunger on Monday November 27th in the K.C. Irving Centre Auditorium from 6:30-9:30 pm. This is Acadia's Signature SDG event and a partnership between the Acadia Sustainability Office, the President's Office, and the Faculties of Professional Studies, Arts, and Pure & Applied Science.
