Free rides, coffee and clothing during Sustainability Week 2012

Students, staff, faculty and community members can help the environment while helping themselves to free stuff this year at Acadia Sustainability Week from October 29th to November 3rd. All week the Acadia community can ride the bus for free, courtesy of Kings Transit. Just show your valid Acadia ID. Closet too full or too empty? Stop by the Clothing Swap on Monday October 29th from 6pm-10pm in the SUB.  Bring your reusable mug to Perkins Coffee Shop on Tuesday October 30th and enjoy a free coffee. Is your electricty bill high? Efficiency Nova Scotia will visit campus on Thursday Nov. 1 with free products and information to help you save energy and money. Plus, enjoy a community bonfire at the Harriety Irving Botanical Gardens, sustainable food and more at events planned throughout the week. See the event schedule for details.

Highlighting food, water, energy, waste and biodiversity on campus, Acadia Sustainability Week events are planned to raise awareness about important issues and create opportunities for taking action. Established at Acadia in 2010, the event grew out of the Campus Sustainability Day movement, which began in the United States in 2003. Since then, the event has grown to include a multitude of activities held at campuses across North America. Acadia Sustainability Week is coordinated by the Arthur Irving Academy for the Environment in partnership with students, staff, faculty and community partners. Special thanks to Dr. John Colton and student in ESST/RECR Sustainability Concepts and Systems.

2012 partners include: Arthur Irving Academy for the Environment, K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre & Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens, Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Acadia Community Farm, Acadia Environmental and Sustainability
Organization (ASU), Environmental Sustainability Students Society, Water Watch Acadia, Chartwells, Manning Memorial Chapel, Perkins Coffee Shop, Kings Transit and Efficiency Nova Scotia.
