Acadia Ecohouse Learning Community Models Sustainable Living

The Acadia Eco-house, formerly located on Westwood Avenue, was recently relocated to University Avenue. Originally a single house accomodating six student residents, the new Eco-House Learning Community, now encompasses two houses each accomodating three residents. Students with similar interests live together and participate in academic and service learning projects related to environment and sustainability on campus.

Throughout the year students organize a variety of events and participate in campus activities to model and promote sustainable living. Past projects have included home energy workshops, local food potlucks, open-houses, and this past year studens started front yard gardens and a built a chicken coop, which provided fresh vegetables and eggs for the student residents. The Eco-house Learning Community welcomes new students each year. Contact Residence Life at Acadia to learn more about this program.
