Acadia Farm receives grant from Town of Wolfville

The Acadia Community Farm received a $1000 grant from the Town of Wolfville’s Community Partnership Program in May. The program provides financial assistance to non-profit organizations or registered charities that operate facilities and organize programs used by residents of the Town.

Funds will support Acadia Farm programs that build food security and food literacy in the community. It will support operation of the community garden, which provides garden plots free of charge to students and members of the community who wish to grow food for themselves and their families. The grant will also support public workshops on topics such as composting, companion planting and preserving to help people learn how to grow organic and nutritious food. Finally, the grant helps ensure the farm can continue to provide donations of fresh local, organic food to the Wolfville Food bank.

The farm was started by Acadia students in 2008 with the vision of providing local, organic produce to the university dining hall, while also serving as a community garden. The Farm has grown to become an educational community centre for the exchange of knowledge surrounding gardening, food, and sustainable agriculture.
